A White Transiency

The first snow to lie in the city centre sidled in last night unseen behind our drawn blinds making the view this morning a unexpected white fairyland.

No matter that the snow was only cms deep, the urge to go forth before breakfast meant a hasty exit to record the views before the sun got high enough to remove any trace of what had been.

Later despite a few half hearted snow flurries, the sun did its job and the pavements cleared, although I found it interesting to note that the gritters which had been so assiduous in salting paths when it was not strictly needed, were nowhere to be seen early this morning; even macho male cyclists who usually barrel down Middle Meadow Walk were being very cautious.

Now at noon in front of the house, the green of the grass is predominant - it was a white transiency.
