Waitingi Day

We've been quite lucky to have started our NZ adventure with the 175 celebrations in Auckland and then Waitingi Day in Wellington with the rugby sevens going on.

This morning we took the cable car up to the Botanical Gardens and enjoyed a peaceful wander around the specimens there. When we got back to town the celebrations were well underway with some amazing sights in the town and particularly on the wharf. We decided to have lunch at the Portofino Italian restaurant and we had a good view from there of all the people coming and going in their costumes. I took quite a few pics through the window and they're here if you'd like to see them. There are a few from the gardens as well and I've also taken a fisheye shot of that sculpture that blipped yesterday. After lunch Marian went off shopping and I wandered further along the wharfs. These guys gave me a shout when I was taking pics and so I took one of them. I've no idea what their face makeup represents but I like the look and the eye contact. The other celebration today is that it's my 800th blip.

Tomorrow we're off to enjoy South Island.
