Ferns
Where in the world are we today then? We left Napier and headed south for the longish drive. To start with the roads were quite flat and straight but with interesting scenery. There was a delightfully ravaged wooden barn near the road, which would have been ideal as a Derelict Thursday subject. I didn't feel it was safe to stop anywhere near it though so that was a shame. After a while it bcame extremely twisty as we climbed up in the Kaitoke Regional Park. We had a couple of stops for coffee but otherwise we pressed on and arrived at Wellington in good time. The city seems a bit of a culture shock after the last week or so since we left Auckland. It's Waitingi Day tomorrow so no doubt the city's building itself up for the events associated with that.
We took a walk through the streets to the Customs Wharf area and sat down with a beer there. Then we walked along the front through a howling breeze blowing down there. Walking back through the Civic Centre I noticed this Fern Ball sculpture (by Neil Dawson) but the sun was directly above it. With the wide angle lens on, I was able to hide the sun behind it and still get the buildings.
Hope your day's going well.
David
