The Trout-eating Troubadour

If I didn't like pelicans so much, I think the osprey would be my favorite shorebird. I love to watch them fish, and to observe some of their strange behavior.

I first saw this guy on another pole. He lost his balance, fell off, then flew away...ending up on this pole. After a few minutes, he was joined by a photographer (me), a blue heron, a crow, a wood stork, and a giant egret. Everyone (except me) wanted to take the trout. To steal the spotted one. To pilfer the prize. To make off with the munchy lunchy. The blue heron finally tight-roped across the light pole support...forcing the osprey to leave this perch, too. He ended up in a heavily shaded tree.

I picked up my baby, my darling, my sunshine, my honey, my shortcake, my wife in Tampa this morning. Plus, for dinner... I made her fried chicken AND...(wait for it)...the first strawberry shortcake of the season. WOO-HOO!

Why the troubadour? The osprey was trying to sing (read screech) his competition away. It didn't work.
