Borthwick's Close

With apologies to Arclight+

Today I found the first tagged Cigs with '2015 on it. But...

I got word that long standing friend Donny was in town; around 0130 ,I realised he'd left me a message asking if I wanted to meet him today after work. I said darn, I have the boys, otherwise I'd love to.

Then when I woke this morning sent him a message asking if he was free at lunchtime. Mid morning when I was in the office he said he was and in we arranged to meet at the corner of Victoria Street and the Grassmarket at 1215.

Which we did! I remember Reading '92 with Donny (and others) along with a couple of Glastonbury weekends, the odd Mudhoney gig in the QMU, the Young Gods at the College of Printing and Building etc etc.
But I went to Hong Kong and he followed true love to Helsinki.

We've kept in touch and batter ideas back and forth (Flags of Inconvenience will happen, I promise) and we oh so nearly met for the Jim Lambie exhibition at the Fruitmarket last summer but it failed at the last minute.

So we met; and went to Hula for a flat white and kids had soya milk hot chocolates. His lad looking archetypal Scandinavian but with a Partick Thistle woolly hat on!

Chatted, laughed and then went for a walk. Donny sent me a Cigs he spotted when he was in town last summer from Abercrombie Place, so I dragged him and his kids on the alternative tour of Central Edinburgh. We did rubbed statues. (Hume on the High St, Greyfriars Bobby), we spat on the Heart of Midlothian and we did Cigs spotting in the closes between the High Street and the Cowgate.

A most enjoyable lunchtime.

So, I got (L-R) Alma, Donny, Leni to pose for the Cigs (dated '13); single underline before I went to check on the ailing one.

And in an action packed lunchbreak, I clocked the first 15 Cigs on a door on High School Wynd. Not only that. There's another new one behind a phone box at the bottom of St Mary's Street. In lilac! No, really.

And as if that wasn't enough, two more before I stumbled back to work in a close next to Mimi's Bakehouse.

I needed a lie down after all that.

I didn't get one......
