Christmas Day 2014
An early Christmas Day sky over the Barclay Church in Bruntsfield.
After an uncertain weather start, the sun has just come out to add a certain sparkle to the Dower House dust, which will be allowed to lie undisturbed, safe from any dusters today.
The little boy in His Lordship came to the fore early this morning when he whooped with delight to see that Santa had rewarded his good behaviour with presents under the Christmas tree. Had Santa had a word with me beforehand there might have been fewer presents, I can tell you.
Well, the phone calls to the absent children have been made, with the only missing link being son#2 who has obviously gone to ground somewhere in deepest darkest Hungary.
A walk round the policies was accomplished in time to welcome a visit from my stepdaughter en route to lunch elsewhere.
Now it is time to don my apron and unwrap the nut roast, kindly donated by the archangel Michael himself and conjure up a dessert for the two of us, all the while remembering the years when the christmas meal took all day to prepare and there were so many people round the table that the youngest had finished their first course before I had served mine.
Not today though, His Lorship and I will dine in unison and harmony..... fingers crossed!
