The High Life
His Lordship being intent on spending Christmas Eve in solitary contemplation in the hills, I had thought of asking you all round this morning for mulled wine, mince pies and a blether behind the Door.
However the offer of meeting up with daughter # 1in town as she did her last minute food shopping proved too strong an attraction to ignore.
This was probably all to the good as there was a phone call well before lunch from the good man himself, to say he was back home having found his favourite café in Biggar closed and God's own hills mired in atrocious weather.
Despite the arctic chill and random freezing showers, Edinburgh had blue skies in the main, and the Christmas Market was alive with families making the most of the holiday atmosphere and the attractions of skating rink, Ferris wheel and High Flyer.
It is a sobering thought that life goes on despite the tragedies happening around us.
And so back home, having survived a shower that felt like taking the Ice Bucket Challenge, ( the blue skies have disappeared for the time being), I wish you all a happy and peaceful Christmas.
