The Melville Monument
Busy day visiting today, we left the car and went by bus for a change. This shot was taken from the bus. It is the Melville monument which commemorates Henry Dundas, (1742 - 1811) The Viscount Melville, a man of great political influence. The Coumn was designed by William Burn and the construction entrusted to Robert Stevenson of the great lighthouse engineering family and grandfather to Robert Louis Stevenson. The statue at the top was by Francis Chantrey.
