Hospital Bed
Well I think it's safe to say that after Ethan sleeping so soundly when the doctors tried to examine him last night, that he then made up for it once we finally got to bed! It was about 11.30pm last night by the time we got to the ward we would be sleeping in. Of course I hadn't got anything with me - PJs, toothbrush, change of clothes etc, as hadn't expected Ethan to be kept in. So we went to bed in our clothes (I was also wearing my sisters jeans since Ethan had been violently sick over mine - she's a size smaller than me so not the most comfy thing to sleep in)!
Ethan woke just after midnight though and was really distressed. Hard to tell whether he was still feeling rotten or if he was confused as to where he was. He refused to stay in his bed though and insisted on curling up on the camp bed with me so I spent the rest of the night worrying he'd fall out! He woke up crying several more times too so I'm sure the other people in the ward can't have had much sleep either.
He really hasn't been right all day. He NEVER wants to spend a day in bed. But has spent the majority of today doing just that. He was sleeping when the consultant was doing her rounds so she asked us to take him to the playroom to try to encourage him to come to a bit. However he just got really upset and asked to go back to bed. He has been waking for 10-15 minutes at a time before curling back up under the covers and going back to sleep again. He has also been complaining of a sore head and sore throat throughout the day. The consultant wanted to take a swab of his throat which to be fair, he handled very well .... until he thew up all over her / hubbie / the bed / my shoes several minutes later!
He has also refused all food all morning and afternoon although has been drinking lots of juice (possibly cos he never gets juice at home, so it's a treat for him) and had some milk too. He finally managed some solids at dinner time - spaghetti hoops followed by jelly & ice-cream!
He perked up a lot when Granny & Grandpa came to visit just before dinner time though. He has now played in the childrens garden outside (he was thrilled to discover "his" Little Tikes police car there) and has also played in the playroom this evening too.
The doctors had been contemplating discharging him this evening, but when they took his temperature it had shot up! So we're being kept in another night so they can see how he is in the morning.
After sleeping all day, he didn't want to go to bed tonight! It took me till 10pm to get him off to sleep and for the 1/2 hour prior to that he insisted on singing Balamory at the top of his voice over and over! Good job the other 2 kids in the ward are older (9 and 14) so are probably used to staying up later anyway!! He also refused to sleep in the hospital bed again so is tucked up on the camp bed for the 2nd night in a row! At least the nurses have said it's ok for me to sleep in the hospital bed instead so I don't have to try to share with him again!
