Cayucos by-the-Sea
This view is toward the south from the northern most end of Cayucos on the Central Coast of California. In the far distance is the community of Morro Bay with its "big rock" just off the coast (seen just above the pier in this photo).
The local Chamber of Commerce describes it this way: "Located on California's scenic Central Coast, halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. Cayucos (pronounced "ky-u-cuss") sits quietly between the Pacific Ocean and the rolling hillsides of open ranchland and is what some people call 'the last of the California beach towns'."
This morning arrived with rain and it really poured while we were eating breakfast. The rain eased off and stopped completely before noon and never appeared again today. The owner of the motel we're staying in said it is suppose to rain hard tonight. So we'll see.
We took the three pooches to the "Unleashed Grooming Salon" this morning at 10:00 so they could all three have a bath and a trim. At 3:30 we went back to get them. They were so happy to see us. We were happy too--they were clean and smelled wonderful. Lesa the groomer uses some kind of lovely smelling shampoo!
We spent the day with no agenda -- just a "doo-dah" day. We watched the waves for a little while and saw a few people hunting for sea glass on the sand just out of reach of the water. The Cayucos "Sea Glass Festival" is every March. We talked to the local jeweler because we were doing a "lookey-lou" at the camper-van sitting outside of his shop; so he came out to tell us about it. Then we looked at houses and drove the 4-miles south to Morro Bay to see a home there that's for sale. While there, we stopped at the library to see if they had anything good in their Friends of the Library store, but nothing. Once we got back into Cayucos, we stopped at a thrift shop run by the local Senior Citizen Center. Mr. Fun found a one dollar CD that has fabulous instrumental music. So capturing a bargain for today could now be checked off our list.
At 3:30 we retrieved the pooches and came back to our room to pause and regroup before dinner. We went early for our evening meal at Cafe della Via. This was our first time there and the Italian meal was excellent. Our waitress, Jackie, told us she and her family just moved here this past February and they love living here because it is such a friendly community.
After dinner we went back to the shoreline to see if there was any possibility of a sunset, but not a chance. The clouds were thick. The clock is now moving toward 10 p.m., but we have not had anymore rain. So possibly the weather report was wrong.
We'll probably move south tomorrow, but I'm not at all sure where we're going or where we'll end the day.
Good night from the Central Coast of California.
