Easter light
Today is the most important day in the Christian calendar. For 2000 years people have been greeting the sunrise on Easter Day as a symbol of the Resurrection.
It is the tradition for the Methodists around Driffield to meet at a local farm for sunrise. We use one of the barns and hold a service. It has been known for the service to be accompanied by the sounds of pregnant ewes and newborn lambs but this year we used the larger barn.
Around 30 people gathered together this morning for 5.45!! It was nowhere near as cold as it has been on some occasions but cold enough. No sunrise though as it was quite foggy.
There is the compensation of a fabulous cooked breakfast afterwards.
More sane Methodists congregate later in the morning at the chapel, worshipping in the room we decorated after Christmas. The flower arrangements were stunning this morning but perhaps the most symbolic thing is the dressing of the Lenten cross with posies of Spring flowers, transforming it from a symbol of torture and death into one of beauty and life.
Happy Easter, no matter what your beliefs.
