Always inconstant...

By bikeyPete

Lovely day, isn't it?

Have you seen the old man
In the closed-down market
Kicking up the paper,
with his worn out shoes?
In his eyes you see no pride
Hand held loosely at his side
Yesterday's paper telling yesterday's news

So how can you tell me you're lonely,
And say for you that the sun don't shine?
Let me take you by the hand and lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something to make you change your mind

I don't live in London and I don't think it really matters, there are lots of lonely people all over the world.
I have no idea whether he was lonely, what his history was or name, he shuffled along the street ignored and bewildered looking. His little shopping bag empty, no shiny 'going out' shoes, new tops, cds or anything of that nature, trooping along in his own little world, even ignored by the 'chuggers'!

Sometimes my heart wants to burst at the world we have created.....and sometimes I just want to cry.

I was just taking pics in the street, he looked right down the lens, I dipped the camera, he continued to walk and look right into me...... I smiled, he smiled and the world lit up.
The old dishevelled man vanished and was replaced by the soul within, his eyes sprang to life and he took a line directly to me.

"lovely day isn't it?" I asked.
"Most pleasant" he replied in a crisp military accent.

We talked for a couple of minutes, passing the time.

What this most gentle of men had done with his life I do not know......today he made mine a little more wonderful.

May the universe cherish his being.........
