Old Stratford

Actually, this area of Stratford is not particularly renown for being 'old', that's reserved for the Shakespeare Trust buildings, but the two buildings pictured here date back a little way.

Apparently there has been a pub on the site of The Old Thatch since 1625, though probably not this one, though it is an old, cosy pub with open fires, oak beams and a great atmosphere that do a very acceptable pint of Doom Bar (and they're not paying me!). The other featured structure is the American Fountain. This dates back to 1887 as a gift to Stratford from George W Childs of Philadelphia - see link.

The sharp sighted of you may notice two of three of the spires are missing from the fountain, apparently one or two of them fell off in recent storms, luckily nobody was under it at the time.
