Just a parrot's life

By ellenparrots

Mickey is home (from the University hospital)

she was there since last Tuesday
On this photo you see one of the avian vets at the University clinic Utrecht (the Netherlands). A collegue of dr. Yvonne van Zeeland, who is Mickey's vet for the cushing disease research. Yvonne wasn't at the clinic today, so Nico was there for me.

Copy and paste from my facebook:

First I had to go by train and bus (would be traveling from Dordrecht to Utrecht one way 2 hours!!).. And thank God a hyves friend (hyves is like Facebook, but than for Dutch people) sent me a message through whatsapp that she and her hubby could drive me over (only paying the costs of gas). That was SO very nice of them.
When going to Utrecht I got a call from the student who takes care of Mickey, Tim, that Mickey was breathing more heavily than yesterday. When I came over Nico (colleague of vet Yvonne, who wasn't in the clinic today) spoke to me for quite a while about Mickey's condition.
To make a long story short. They can't find out WHY the fluid came/comes in her body.
She is treated now with anti yeast and with fluid fighters. In two weeks a new x-ray will be done to see how her longs are doing. The biggest problem now is Mickey, not eating by herself, but keeping her in the clinic, especially in the weekend is not good for her. They think that if she is in her own environment with her mommy that she will start eating by herself again soon.
I going to hope that... She just ate a small peace of apple and carrot.. that's all.
About the yeast: they could do a biopt of the lungs and do research that (don't know the correct word? Put on breeding??) but that can't be done with lungs and they also took blood but there wasn't anything found that could be a sign that she has fungus. But treating her for this, is just a try to see if that works! If you know what I mean.
Hugs, Mommy & Mickey
