These two chaps stand near the entrance to the Touchstones Museum and Art Gallery and were an inspiration for its name. Both were donated to the museum in 1970, originating from the village of Wardle. The smaller figure is thought to be a "Celtic" head. The larger one is probably 18th century, part of a long local tradition of carving stone faces on to buildings and gateposts.
