Frozen rain

Today's the day ............................ to be marooned

If I had had any idea of the horrors that we were going to wake up to this morning when I was moaning on yesterday about the weather - I'd have kept quiet.

Apparently during the night, the conditions were right for what they call Frozen Rain. It happens when rain or snow falls through a layer of warm air about 2,000 ft or so above the ground which keeps it in liquid form. Then as the rain falls further, it passes through a very cold, but shallow layer of cold air at the surface and once it hits the ground, trees, cars or other items it instantly freezes and forms a coating over the surfaces.

Everything was indeed covered with a glaze of ice - including the path and all the steps down to the front gate. It was lethal out there. I watched Tim fall several times as he went out and I decided there was absolutely no way that I was going to risk life and limb to go to work.

I was marooned in the house till it all went away - they would just have to manage without me ................
