Deep joy, Dutch style

The Dutch are passionate about the ice. It's the first time I have been in Holland to experience these conditions and the excitement that it generates. It remains very cold and the ice is thick and sound in many places. Everywhere we went people were on the ice either skating or just walking on it, anything to be in contact and feel the ice beneath their feet. The whole country is in a fever of anticipation at the moment waiting to hear if the 11 cities ice skating tour is to go ahead. I have my fingers crossed for them!
This pond area made a good circular route round the central 'island' and adults and children alike were skating and having a great time.
We drove out to another scenic spot and did some walking in the snow and more windmill spotting. This was nicely rounded off with hot chocolate and applecake.
The gluhwein came later once we were back at the house!
