7th Grade Exhibtion

Today was no soccer and it's a 3 day weekend....so it's a fabulous day for Loren to work on his 7th Grade Exhibition (the year of the math-based Exhibition). The parts have been drawn for each of the pieces to build the Empire State building to scale. It was originally going to be given to TAP Plastics to cut and it ended up being out of our price range, so on to plan number two. Plan number two involved purchasing 1/4" and 1/8" fiberboard and cutting them ourselves.....all 72 pieces!!! He started cutting them this morning and found the blade would not cut with the precision they needed. Then it was off to the home store again to get a thin, sharp blade for the table saw.

I took these pics of Loren trying out a table saw for the first time. He did such a great job. Thank you, Gary, for your patience in this project! Of course, I have the problem I ALWAYS have of picking just one pic to include. Ended up with this collage showing the process of the scaling/drawing, measuring, cutting and labeling off all of the 72 pieces. I'm thinking the assembling will be quite the project too. One day at a time, right? :-)
