Who knows what a makes a good photo?

I was going to do lots of OU reading today but ended up starting to write a story. Then Gemma texted from the bus to say I should get out with my camera because the fog was doing some beautiful things.
I got out with my camera but the fog was almost gone. We chased its remnants around a bit and finally ended up at Saunton beach.
The sun was out, it was far too warm for this time of year, a few people were surfing, and the reflections were gorgeous.
I took 124 photos and managed to get a shortlist of 31. I struggled to chose just 1 for blipfoto. So I asked around.

Joel said the one with rusty old farm machinery in the pic was the best.
Tess said the one with the dog in the pic was the best.
Richard said the one with mussels in different focusses, or the simple sea and distant surfer or the one with a good reflection on the sand.
Gemma said the one that for her was the best composition - maybe the distant fog and dunes but probably the beach with the sand rocks and water with light and shadows.

I liked the one looking back up the beach with strong reflections and symmetry.

We're all different.

In the end I chose the one that Gemma said was the best because she has a good eye and is the most artistic one in the family.

But when it comes to pictures we should have what we like not what someone tells us is good, shouldn't we?

Here are all 31 on Flickr:
Mostly - but not totally - Saunton
