Holcomb Creek Trestle, Helvetia, Oregon
I woke up early this morning to an amazing sunrise and a moon just going down....both were spectacular. The day turned out to be one of those clear glorious winter days, cold and WINDY! But I decided to return to a special place that keeps calling me back. I'm not sure why the draw, but I love this old trestle and I think it is an amazing construction project....to think it has been here for so long (over a hundred years), and that it is made of the most amazing wood you've ever seen! It is located about 5 miles from my house, out in the farm country northwest of here. This is the same area that I have found the old barns. It is so historic, so many old old farms and interesting buildings....and this amazing Trestle. The history is quite lengthy and interesting, so I will leave it up to a few "old timers" to tell you all about it (they have an amazing website)!! To check it out, CLICK HERE!
We think this is the oldest and the longest trestle in the United States that is still working. It makes it pretty special in my book :)
