Resting

Over the weekend snow, gales, hail and high seas battered much of New Zealand, closing roads, bringing down powerlines and trees, and driving yachts aground.

I discovered this poor seal pup on the rocky shore of Sumner Beach, a place unusual for seals to hang out. He was trying to rest in a well sheltered, rocky crevice, but he decided to land where lots of tourists come to hang out. I think he found this place to weather the storm yesterday.

Hope he will make it back out to the ocean okay.
