Another Languedoc year...

Pardon?

"Country pubs in England are disappearing as fast as heteros." said the young man beside me at dinner last night. The conversation continued for a full minute before my brain awoke from its shock. "Excuse me, I have to take you back a bit. Could you explain about the hetero thing?" I asked. He rattled on about birds and farming methods before I realised he'd actually said "hedgerows".

I was rather disappointed. I thought we were about to embark on a really lively discussion.

Today's blip is of one of my favourite heteros filled with wild juniper, lavender, strawberry bushes, cistus and rosemary. A proper wild mediterranean garden.

Today's been lovely, apart from the massively overcooked pork, the central heating turning itself off and the dishwasher deciding to go on strike. Our lovely friends Nicola, Teddy, Erzsi, Henny and Yvonne joined Mum, Ali and me for a laughter-filled Christmas day of food, wine and silliness. We inflicted our own not-yet-bottled unfiltered 2010 wine on everyone so they've all gone home with blue teeth. But it's been very good fun.

Happy Christmas everyone. I hope the day treats you equally as well.
