Comfort Food

Treacle Tart is the most comforting of all comfort foods.

My dearest, beloved Nibs lost her father, Richard, early this morning.

Richard was funny and always kind to me. He made me laugh and I liked being around him. He made me Spanish Omelette when I went to see them as he knew I loved it. On the night before Nibs' wedding, we sat on the sofa together singing along at the tops of our voices to 'Romeo and Juliet' by Dire Straits, and afterwards it always made me think of him and laugh. He and Gill sailed all the time, and he was always tanned and weatherbeaten looking. Nibs is just like him in many ways, and they had a very special connection. He came to our wedding and I remember his face as he smiled at me during our first dance. He was a lovely person. He came with us the second time Chris ran the London Marathon and he stood on the kerb and cheered and cheered when he ran by. I saw him in August when he was well, we had lunch and we went to the Selsey Carnival. It was a really great day. He and Gill were off sailing around France the following week. They had an amazing relationship and it was obvious how in love they were.

His three children are all at the early stages of starting their own families and it is very sad that his grandchildren won't know him. He would have been a really brilliant Grandad.
