Herakles the Archer 1909

........ by Antoine Bourdelle 1861-1929.

The family visited the Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde - Art Museum today! Prince Eugene (1865-1947) acquired the property at the turn of the 20th Century and set about creating a personal and distinguished home with surrounding park and gardens. He was one of his generation's foremost landscape painters and an important art collector, with about 7,000 works, focussing on Swedish art. He left his property to the Swedish State to make it available to the public to enjoy. It was opened as a museum in 1948.

The park and gardens retain their character from the time of Prince Eugen, where the natural park of Djurgarden continues within the boundary fence, at the mansion and the Art Gallery Building, the park gives way to terraced gardens where the Prince placed sculptures as a continuation of the indoor art collection.

The site has it's own nursery providing plants for the museum and gardens.
