Hairy Woodpecker (male)
Bill and I took a short trip up to the little botanical gardens so that I could show it to him. We stayed for a little while and I was excited to see one of these little woodpeckers at their suet. He then moved to the tree and I liked this photo the best, although not as crystal clear as I would have like. We get them here, too, but haven't really seen them much lately. Maybe they like the suet at this place better or something.
There are two woodpeckers that look very much alike - the Downy and the Hairy. Now that I could get a close up photo, I can see that this one has the white around it's eyes, and this is the Hairy Woodpecker. They also have a bigger bill than the Downy. This is what the bird book is telling me. In this photo you can't see the spot of red that is on the back of his head, which this guy had, indicating he is the more colorful male.
Okay, I have coupons at J C Penney and I'm gonna go use them before they expire. Bill, whose cold turned to a coughing thing, is gonna take a nap. Sounds like a plan.
Have a good day, Blippers! Hopefully I will be catching up on Journals soon. The busier I go, the behinder I get.
