Having a good time!
This is my Grandfather's watch; a Waltham Traveller.
It was presented by Eadie Bros of Paisley in token of "40 Years Faithful Service" on the 11th November, 1918 which, as he was born in 1877, means that he must have started work aged 11!
While I cannot confirm that particular fact, I do know that Grandfather was a well-trusted employee. During the Great War, the army in France ran short of artillery shells (The "Shell Crisis") and all patriotic machine shop owners were invited to contribute their premises to assist the war effort. The management kindly selected my Grandfather, as Chief Engineer, to travel to London to sign the company up.
He retired several years later and enjoyed a long retirement until he passed away in 1976.
I still have and regularly use some of his old tools.
