Day off

So today has been a day of two halves(?!)

I took a 12 month career break back in October to focus my energy on our littlest rascal (he has some learning difficulties associated with neonatal epilepsy) and part of 'the deal' was that sometimes I would get a day off! ( I can hear Mums around the country applauding!) Of course, I'm hopeless at scheduling these and, as such, this is my first one!

So, I've been in to Manchester today, I've had coffee in the Northern Quarter, in Teacup :-) and I've mooched and taken pictures and been a proper grown up. Although I did succomb to a little 'primarking' <hangs head in shame> ;-)

But then, at 13:45 precisely, there I was, in the school hall applauding No.1 rascal in the Reception Christmas play. Bless, bless and bless a little more. With side helping of 'bless you', for my child (during a dramatic finale) violently sneezed a trail of 'you know what' from his chin to his belly button. Oh yes. The audience groaned. The mummy hung head. And then as he nervously looks at me for reassurance I decide there's no use directing him in the clean up operation and instead clap wildy and make thumbs up signs. In his defence, he only tried to lick it up a little bit. And once he'd established that even sucking it was probably not going to solve the problem, he pretty much left it alone.

Why does no-one talk about this part of parenting when you're considering it as a life choice?? I'm sure there'd be fewer takers ;-)

Anyway, we retreived the costume from school for emergency wash before tomorrow's performance (and, importantly, photograph!) and all in all he seemed pretty pleased with himself. He is full of cold though (no kidding?) and after his bath he proclaimmed himself to be, 'freezing'. He took such delight in a cuddle with me to warm him up that he said, 'You're better than the world.' Impressive, you might think. But he frowned, unsatisfied, cocked his head on one side, thought for a second and said confidently, 'No, you're better than chocolate.'

And all on my day off ;-)

P.S the photo's from the Northern Quarter - I liked the way modern Manchester is sneaking in from above.
