Six Geese A-laying
For the last 2 days I have driven by this pond at the hospital, and have only seen this solitary goose. It made me wonder why. After a few pictures of some milkweeds...I approached the goose.
The goose is hurt. How bad...I can't tell. You can see the right wing hanging down where it shouldn't be. As close as he let me get...perhaps he can't fly off.
I continually have discussions with the 2 little guys that reside on each of my shoulders. The always smiling optimistic guy thinks the goose will be fine in time, the wing will heal, and he will fly south to join his family. The never smiling pessimistic guy thinks this goose is cooked, and he will be spending the winter with the rest of us Michiganders. I sincerely hope the smiling guy is right.
I've got 2 out of the 12...as in the Twelve Days of Christmas. Swans yesterday, geese today. Tomorrow...I set off in search of Lords-a-leaping or Pipers piping. I'll take either one.
The goose also reminds me of Christmas dinner. Have you heard about the Tur-duc-hen? A chicken in a duck in a turkey. I'm going to try to top that this year with a Tur-oose-duc-hen-ant-ouse-ridge. A partridge in a grouse in a pheasant in a chicken in a duck in a goose in a turkey. WHEW!! I'll have to allow some extra oven time.
If things go well with that...I foresee a new Christmas song. The 7 days of Christmas. Bring it down from the 12. I can hear it now. FIIIIVE MALLARD DUCKS!!!!!
P.S.33 years ago today...a little girl came to live with us. She didn't have much hair, and she cried a lot...but she turned out to be a nice baby. She is now my 2nd favorite nurse. Happy birthday to my daughter Julie Anne. Love you lots.
