Liquid Gold

The Maternity Support lady came round this afternoon to talk about colostrum collecting prior to baby being born (apparently it's no longer called "harvesting", it's simply "collecting"!) and to give me a pile of syringes and stoppers for said collecting. She went through the practicalities of hand-expressing (always useful to get a refresher on that kind of thing) and we had a chuckle at Ben's drumming as well.

So, Ben has got a job to do this week - rather than just nursing, he's going to be operating my let-down for me!! Ha. I guess extended nursing does have its benefits...

The other thing the lady said, as she gave me 1ml and 2ml syringes, was that I can collect into one syringe over a 24 hour period. Make sure I write the date and the time I start expressing on the packet so that I know when to change to a new syringe, keep it in the fridge for that 24 hours, and stick it in the freezer at the end.

Even I wasn't expecting to fill 2 x 1ml syringes in 15 minutes on the first attempt.

I'm going to need a lot more syringes at this rate.

I think there may end up being a surplus. If I try to keep things as sterile as possible maybe I'll be able to donate some of them...

So that has been the beginning of the Liquid Gold Collection!

The rest of the day hasn't been so great - I have had a serious lack of patience today, and Ben, being a bit under the weather, has wanted a lot of attention just at all the moments where I've either not been able to give it or not wanted to give it.

We had to have a cuddle and a sit down to make friends again.

And again.

And again.

He's been learning about scissors again and spent a long time studiously cutting up a takeaway menu.... Might have to put that snap up on flickr.

Just waiting for Steve to get home so I can eat with him (Ben's been eating ham and crumpets all afternoon) and then Ben and I are escaping for the evening to Hayley's while Stuart and Blake come round here to help Steve get the ceiling and chimney breast plastered.

We had fun yesterday dreaming about decorating the room! Talking about colours and wallpaper and which wall to do what colour and which walls to paper - I think we've almost agreed on a plan. Just need to finish the plastering and get the woodwork stripped - it's getting there! It's quite amazing the difference just clearing away all the rubble makes. Enough difference to actually be able to start thinking about decorating :0)
