Here, there be monsters.
Bit of blue day today, I know it's just the low after the high and excitement of last week's move.
Woke to find some idiot writing in the Torygraph about how people didn't need libraries anymore because...
"Fast, cheap computing had spread to most homes, and to our whizzy new mobile phones. Where on earth is the gap that libraries are meant to plug?"
Incensed was not the word! MOST homes? *exactly* NOT everyone can afford to pay for internet or a smart phone. I work , am on an OK wage, have a good credit record but TESCO and a couple of other providers wouldn't let ME sign up to a contract simply because I was renting and had been for less than 12 months. Really not sure how he expects people on a low income to afford a smart phone contract.
And there are all the other great things libraries offer.
Where else can you take your children, read books, listen to stories and poems, use the internet, educate them and yourself free of charge and free of pester power gift shops?
"Whizzy new mobile phones" was seared into my mind as I walked into the library and saw the PC's almost full at 9.50am being used by people who are not as lucky and who do not have the privilege of having access to a computer or smart phone at home.
Passing the teens who have no money, no jobs and no hope and the girl who has run away from home and spends her day in the children's library (because she feels safe) till the police come and pick her up. Again.
That's a pretty important 'Gap' I would say.
So, that got me down and I was unusually quiet in work.
Heading home and I passed the newspapers and the horrific gloating death photos and then the story of Yue Yue just really got to me.
-The people who walked on by-
And left me pondering how awful the world can be.
Eve made this little fella at Junior University today. Monsters have got into my head today.
But the monsters in my mind have human faces.
Sleep well and hug your children tight tonight.
Kx
Today Tomorrow, I won't think of any sad things
Will not think of torture, or the rape of nature
Just today tomorrow, I won't touch those sickening papers
Will just let myself get swept away by the beautiful day
