Not sailing today!
There are two vessels in this picture. One the left is the High Speed Ferry, operated by Stena Sealink. On the right is a Hunt Class Minesweeper. I saw this on the way to catch my ferry. I didn't get a chance to stop and have a proper look, but it is HMS Hurworth, which just so happens to be my last ship before I left the Navy last year. Unfortunately, my old crew aren't on there any more as the crews swap between ships based out in Bahrain. Its been over a year since I left, so I have lost track of who's on which ship.
Anyway, what do these ships have in common. The weather on Monday was pretty appalling on the Irish Sea, so neither of these two ships were sailing in a hurry. There was a third ship in doubt due to the weather. That was the Jonathan Swift, operated by Irish Ferries. That was the ferry I was due to catch for my week working in Dublun. However, she was also stuck alongside due to the weather, hence not being in this picture.
Fortunately the larger ferry was still sailing, and I experienced a rather interesting crossing of the Irish Sea. I eventually arrived on site at 6pm to start work - much to the disbelief of the staff who were on shift at the time.
The week has now passed by, and the return crossing today (Thursday) was a lot 'Swift'er and allowed me to get back home at a sociable hour.
