Travellers joy
Travellers
joy ( clematis vitalba sometimes known as old mans beard ) is a lovely
rambling wild plant. Many years ago my daughters father and I travelled
in a horse drawn caravan, through the lanes of south west England, he
sharpened knives and shears to earn a modest living in the villages we
passed through. I was on a long summer break from college (training for
social work ). We spent many hours identifying and learning about the
plants we passed in the hedges and roadsides. Seeing this plant on the
harbour wall in schull reminded me of those times.
