Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

By Carol

2011 Thursday -- Morro Rock

We're back on California's Central Coast -- Morro Bay to be exact. It's definitely a bitter sweet moment. We've come to join with a group of friends who will arrive here late tomorrow morning when we'll all go to the ocean's edge and scatter the ashes of our dear friend George, who died this past April. The celebration of his life was in mid May (and I blipped some back then about our relationship and what a terrific guy he was). The "bitter" is intensified when realizing that it was exactly 7-years ago this Labor Day holiday weekend that we came here with George to scatter the ashes of his wife Pam who had died of cancer at age 57. Heavy sigh.

The "sweet" is just our enjoyment of being together at the coast. We both loves the waves, the wind, the squish of sand between our toes. We were right here just one month ago and enjoyed ourselves immensely and feel deep enjoyment at getting to be here again. We feel like the thanks goes to our friend George, since it was one of his last requests -- that we all come here to scatter his ashes.

My schedule at the college allowed for us to get away this afternoon. So Mr. Fun took the three pooches to the kennel this morning. He said they rode in the car so quiet and peaceful that he had to turn around to make sure they were really with him. He also felt they were excited when they realized where they were. I think he's joking me. Our three dogs are rowdy, but I'd like to believe that they are comfortable and secure-feeling at the kennel. At least they all have each other while they are there.

Tomorrow begins a major 3-day holiday in America, so getting on the road ahead of the traffic was delightful. In the 4-hour drive here we experienced no traffic at all -- came through the heart of Los Angeles without having the freeway jammed at all.

We started listening to our autumn soundtrack as we drove today . . . lots of James Taylor and had to listen to "Ventura Highway" by America as we drove through Ventura. When this weekend concludes we'll focus on the "sweet" and the special memories of George and this weekend will be another special memory and hopefully the bitter will fade.

Internet connection isn't the best here at the motel this evening. So I may not get to comment much. Have a great weekend everyone.

Good night from the Central Coast.

P.S. This has been back-blipped 24 hours late due to poor Internet connection. Ugh!
