Beetroot
After a week of tail chasing I finally caught up a bit today. Lots of mundane stuff. Then the sun came out and I headed for the place I love most.
There's lots of activity at the allotment just now - the Open Day is tomorrow. Everyone is preening. The shears and petrol mowers were in evidence all over the place. Others were weeding, and some, in true Edinburgh style, were bringing pots of flowers (I can only assume from home) to make their plot look neat, tidy and sweet smelling.
I can't be doing with that. My plot is my plot and if others want to look then that's nice but so long as it pleases me that's what matters. The beetroot are struggling this year but they look so pretty with their red stems and veined leaves. I pulled a few to make a quick beetroot and onion relish. The earthy smell is pungent and heady.
I think everyone should have an allotment to work on/sit at/watch - it should be prescribed on the NHS. Anyone wishing to come and share the air and tranquility with me is more than welcome.
