family time chez Spitzis
this is it. this is what we do....
this is the worst bit of apple picking - clearing windfalls from under each tree. Among the wasps, slugs and mouldy rotten apples are quite few nice ones that can go down to the cider* press. We don't get much money for these because they ain't nice at all. After the ground is cleared we can shake all the rest down and pick them up off the floor. We get a different price for each kind as some make better cider than others. And then we have our own secret special blend made into our own cider for sale and own consumption.
For the last few years the rest of the family have insisted on listening to music whilst apple picking but tonight, for no reason apart from....er....they decided to sing. It was such a pleasure to work and sing at the same time, so much nicer than horrible poppy radio! We sang songs we all know the words to which means sort of folky-children's songs. One we sang is one I feel in love with very soon after Blingspitz 1 was born, so one of the first Swiss songs I learnt. I've found you version of it on Youtube, chosen because it makes me smile, not because it's the best version on there...listen...
and here's another one that Mr. S sang to the children......
I really hope that this carries on through the whole apple picking and that I don't have to listen to bloody Rihana again ;-)
*or unfiltered apple juice, depending on which kind of English you speak.
