Re-Vision: A Photo Journal

School Pending

On our drive home this afternoon, I showed Hannah this one-room Amish schoolhouse. Lucky us: the gate was open today, allowing a rare glimpse inside the yard without the photo-obstructive fence railings. Out of respect, I don't like to photograph the children. Today, the schoolmaster must have been opening the door and getting things ready for the upcoming opening. The buggy parked along the side of the building was a bonus. Although it wouldn't fit into the shot, the old rusty metal mailbox in front of the fence reads, "Mountain View School." There were boxes and cleaning supplies out front as evidence that the big opening day is fast approaching. We often see the tiniest little Amish children, laden with lunch pails on their foot scooters travelling back home to their farm at the end of the day. Sometimes it's easy to take for granted the nuances of the places near home or on our commutes here and there.
