A return to 'my friend' !
About 7 years ago I started going to piano lessons. I began learning as a child but didn't get very far. All was going well for a time then despondency set in with the realisation I was never going to be able to play well. Last November I stopped lessons and the piano has stood neglected ever since. A number of friends have offered encouragement and I began to think about it but felt almost phobic as I approached the piano and couldn't bring myself to lift the lid. When I was at Summer school recently I met a lovely lady who was a music teacher, she lives in Basel, Switzerland and is encouraging me by e-mail would you believe. Her advice was to not think of 'practice', rather playing with my friend. A novel approach. Today I went out to buy some music that might excite me enough to try again. It feels very strange and the sounds didn't sound very musical so it's going to be a struggle. The music I bought was a book of 'essential showtunes' and there are some great pieces.
I have made a start with There's No Business Like Show Business. Can't see me giving any concerts in the forseeable future!!
