Dronefly

I think this is a male Dronefly but please correct me if I'm wrong. There are loads of them feeding on the thyme and other flowers out in the garden joined by hoverflies, bumblebees and honey bees. Apparently research has shown that Droneflies don't just mimic honey bees in looks but also in the way they fly as well. Their flight behaviour is more similar to that of the honey bee than to that of related flies.

Blackie was about as well as his missus Brownie (very imaginative names I know lol) and I had fun watching one of their babies trying to balance on the berberis while trying to snatch the berries.
