A little rusty

This afternoon, after I'd been to the bike shop to pick up some bits and pieces, I finally got round to hauling the single speed out of the bike shed. It's, err, a little neglected. Can't really remember how long it's been in there. It still sports the number from the last Pedal for Scotland Glasgow to Edinburgh run. Number 3235. It's a sorry sight.

But ... I have a new chain for it and I'm going to cannibalise another bike to give it new brakes. And then it can sit and wait until I'm ready for riding one 52:16 gear. The eagle-eyed will notice the double chain ring. It didn't come with a 52 tooth chain ring. At some point I decided the one gear it had wasn't difficult enough.

Other than that we've been making Ewan's Spongebob costume for the Gala Fancy Dress competition tomorrow. I made the basic shape and he's doing all the painting as I type. Hopefully it'll have that winning combination of clearly homemade, not rubbish but with clear evidence of child involvement. Later I'll try to resist touching it up although I've got the job of painting in all the cartoon black lines and then that'll be tomorrow's blip sorted.
