Necessity

A CROW perishing with thirst saw a pitcher, and hoping to find water, flew to it with delight. When he reached it, he discovered to his grief that it contained so little water that he could not possibly get at it. He tried everything he could think of to reach the water, but all his efforts were in vain. At last he collected as many stones as he could carry and dropped them one by one with his beak into the pitcher, until he brought the water within his reach and thus saved his life.

Necessity is the mother of invention.

- Aesop's "The Crow and the Pitcher"

The funny thing is, I read recently of an experiment examining Great Apes set this problem (though without the dying-of-thirst bit). They did well; comparable with 7 year old children if I recall correctly. However, rooks did much better, with I think over 90% getting it sussed.

Anyway...

Here is a cup lacking a drink, and no stones will fix that. Some beans will, so will ask mrs tsuken to obtain me some. 8)

This was actually just taken as an experiment. I read that Filterstorm can work with RAW images, so I set the camera to RAW only (to ensure I wasn't confused by it loading the accompanying jpg) and took this picture. I found that it did load it, but it reported a significantly smaller file. Which confuses me. Anyway, I had a tutu with it, and since I had no chance today to take another photo, here it is.

Lumix G10, iPad, Filterstorm (desaturated, curve adjustment applied via colour-match mask to the black area on the cup, and erased from the jug behind), Blipfoto iPhone app.
