All the Colours of the Rainbow

A PEACOCK spreading its gorgeous tail mocked a Crane that passed by, ridiculing the ashen hue of its plumage and saying, "I am robed, like a king, in gold and purple and all the colors of the rainbow; while you have not a bit of color on your wings." "True," replied the Crane; "but I soar to the heights of heaven and lift up my voice to the stars, while you walk below, like a cock, among the birds of the dunghill."

Fine feathers don't make fine birds.

- Aesop's "The Peacock and the Crane"

Of course, old Aesop has implied rather a false dichotomy here, and the rainbow lorikeet shows clearly why, as it is an absolutely gorgeous bird - especially when it's sitting completely unfussedly just a few feet from you - and also, as the crane, soars to the heights and lifts its voice.

Wonderful little dinosaurs. My favourite (as I think I must have said before). Here it is large.

This photo also marks my defection from Photogene as image editing app of choice on my iPad, to Filterstorm. The main advantage is the masks that allow you to apply an adjustment selectively, rather than to the entire image. That also means it takes a little longer, but not heaps - and I think it's worth it.

Lumix G10, iPad, Filterstorm (cropped, sharpening and curves adjustment applied to the bird), Blipfoto iPhone app (bye-bye exif)
