An evening with Martha and Rufus
Just a warning that Blips this week might get rather repetitive!
Tonight was Rufus and Martha at the Opera House. An interesting evening with peaks and troughs. Martha wore the same dodgy zebra print catsuit/leotard combination that was such a talking point last night and pulled off a diverse set that really came to life with her Edith Piaf covers.
Rufus' set drew heavily on the early albums but also dipped into Lulu and Release the Stars as well as performing some of Kate's material with Martha and his cousin, Lilly.
Highlights: Sweet Thames Flow Softly (with Ewan McColl) with amazing harmonies and the feel of the collaboration of the Christmas shows. April Fools as I have never heard that one live. A slowed down and brilliantly harmonised In my Arms and the tribute to his father in law (sort of) Everybody Knows.
I was really not sure about the Elton John and Kikki Dee tribute.... but cheesy and really highlighted that Rufus Wainwright really can't dance. (bless)
Paul behaved himself and I think (although he didn't say) he didn't hate it as much as he thought he would!
