Bonking Butterflies

Some of you may remember this and from what I can gather that turned in to one of these two. The German name for them is Schönbär, which is Pretty Bear in English and for any Latin scholars it's Callimorpha dominula.

It was Butterfly Of The Year last year and now look at it...

This was one the last shots from our walk in the Taunus. I'd been tormented by butterflies dancing just out of shot for hours (them and a biggish flock of starlings that were doing that synchronised-not-crashing-into-each-other-flying that I find fascinating). When I saw them at first I thought they were a busted piece of plastic and then I had that Hey-Wait-A-Minute moment. I apologise to all the butterfly families who may be embarassed by this shot.

A very good afternoon where we avoided the rain and walked for ages. I had this in my head for a lot of it. I liked Kalyug a lot and this is a pretty song.
