Lightening!

Wow, I cannot describe how excited I am about this shot!

So, I'm traveling this week on business. Only about 4 hours from home staying right on the Indiana Michigan border. I've been here since yesterday, had lots of meetings and such all day today. After my final meeting of the day I ran back to the hotel to grab my camera gear.

I did a map search prior to my trip and found a nearby lake. I found a couple of spots that might be good for sunsets. Unfortunately, neither had public access. So, I drove up north into Michigan and found another lake called Lake Christiana. The only public access was a small boat launch area.

A storm was rolling in so I thought I'd at least get some decent storm cloud shots. But while I was standing there the lightening just kept happening all across the lake. I set up the tripod but didnt have an ND filter with me. It was still too light for long exposure with out it. The best I could do was a 2 second exposure.

It took 85 random shots at 1 to 2 seconds each.....and then it happened! My first lightening shot! Its not a great composition...but its lightening! :)
The random blur in the water is a boat coming off the lake in a hurry.

Tomorrow afternoon I go back home.
