Pretty Boy

I know I should call him by his name...and most of the time, I do. But, sometimes its Bubba, sometimes its Buddy-boy, sometimes its Grandpas baby, and today it was Pretty Boy.

Mitch Albom of the Detroit Free Press wrote a book a few years back titled "Tuesdays with Morrie." I have the book but have'nt read it yet. My mini-book, complete with pictures...is titled "Fridays with Merrick." On Fridays...when his momma works...the boy is mine...the doggone boy is mine.(Old song.)

Today, I took him over to the playground for the first time. Without any baby swings...he swang(swinged?) with me for a few minutes. Then...to the merry-go-round. I never understood the word. It does'nt make me merry. After just a couple of go-rounds...Grandpa got dizzy. Enough of that. I took a picture of him sitting on a jungle gym floor, but he wanted to reach for things...and that made me too nervous. He did like watching the older kids on the equipment. WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE HIM NEXT YEAR!!!

He took an hour nap. We sat on the bed, and watched the U.S. Open golf tournament. (GO Rory!!! You can do it!!) Then, it was downstairs to eat. Corn and rice for the main course...Mixed fruits for dessert. Yummy. Back in the day...when I was feeding my kids...it was a bite for them, and a bite for me. I remember it tasting pretty good. One time at the doctors checkup...she mentioned that the kids should be gaining more weight. I knew why they were'nt. I sheepishly looked away. I could'nt meet her gaze.

Nowadays...especially the meat and vegetable dishes make me want to barf. Maybe that's why Merrick is such a bruiser...Grandpa is not eating his share. After he finished eating...he even sat there in his high chair for a half-hour, while I made dinner for both my house, and my daughers house. As his Aunt Lori would say, "Heeee's a good booooy!

With my own kids all "growed up", it's been fun to watch the pretty boy, and observe how he changes from week to week. I think we tend to forget how fast things change. Next year...when we go to the playground...we'll show those babies a thing or two. Merrick on the climbing wall. I can see it now.

That was a half-joke about feeding the kids, and the doctors visit...although...as I recall... I did like the fruit.

P.S. How about those toothies?
