must try harder

On our way to Wembley, we shall not be moved...

...and one thing's for sure. We were not moved!

Wembley is a great stadium, a great atmosphere to watch football especially with 85,000 odd spectators! Full of anticipation, the Euro qualifier, England v Switzerland...cast iron certainty...no?

No. Following the last match there on 28th May - probably the best display of football ever witnessed where Barcelona showed they are probably the best team in the world that even the Brazilian National team would struggle to contain, then we have to witness England in their home stadium squeeze a point from a country with a population smaller that the English capital itself.

Interesting that the 85,000 people watching in the ground probably had a better idea how to manage the national side than the one man being paid £5m a year to do the same. Widely accepted as having the best league, the English Premiership, in the World, boasting 11 of the supposed best English players from that league, playing against a team that could field just one capable of holding a job down in that same league, and it is they that deservedly go 2-0 up in the first half.

It demonstrates the state of English football when the best striker mustered from the whole of English football is Darren Bent. LOL.

Founders of the beautiful game England may be, but it's clearly time to lower expectations well below where they have already sunk and accept that England are no longer a force in world football.

Such a shame Wales or Scotland couldn't qualify. At least all supporters could have watched with anticipation and hope having performed beyond expectations. One day soon maybe.

As for England, well they are on their way nowhere.

(Apologies for quality...taken on my phone.)
