must try harder

Speedy Gonzales pleased at last!

Yay! - BT arrived this morning....all those missed appointments and chasing tails, then two arrive! Yes, they sent two engineers not one. So one watched the other do his bit and then they swapped.

The Problem:

Of course BT says it was Openreach BT that was to blame.
Openreach BT say it was BT that was to blame.
You see, they are both BT companies, but not connected. One is a sub-contractor to the other...so neither know what the other is doing as there's no direct connection between them, so they are both wrong in each others eyes.

The Solution:

They did eventually get infinity installed although it was not without it's problems. Not as simple as the sales lady would have me believe. Here's just some of the differences between reality and the sales Pitch:

1. Engineers would not turn up on time.
2. Engineers would not call to let us know they wouldn't be able to attend.
3. The new Infinity box wouldn't plug straight in to my existing line.
4. They did have to lay a whole new bunch of cabling.
5. The nice cordless phone you get with the BT hub, now redundant., would not be replaced by a new cordless phone with the infinity hub. There s no phone with it.
6. the new infinity hub will not accommodate my IP Voip phone. Incoming, but no outgoing calls.
7. The engineers were not instructed to install BT Vision...(although plying them with tea had it's advantages, as they agreed to do it for me. :)
8. The engineers would leave before ensuring BT Vision worked.
9. The engineers would not check aerial compatibility with the BT Vision box....
10. ....even if they had, they would do nothing to help if it were not.

OK, that's my top ten differences.

Now to counter all that, tonight's blip may just make all these differences bearable, for now, I am getting 35Mb download speed and over 7Mb upload speed. A 12mb jpeg loaded to my photo library was done in well under a minute! That's quicker that a low res 1mb was loading yesterday! We're talking mega fast!

On balance, I'd say I'm pretty happy!
