Silk

Silk has been made in Cambodia for centuries. Although the process has been modernised over the years it is still a highly labour intensive job. Today we visited a silk farm and silk making school supported by the French It was an interesting visit.The organisation was set up to provide a training that meant people were able to increase their income without leaving their home town. The workers here have decent pay and conditions as well as social and medical benefits and hold shares in the company.We saw the whole process from the silkworms feeding on the mulberry trees,the thread being removed from the cocoonsand turned into silk as well as the dyeing with natural dyes and weaving. The colours were absolutely amazing!
