Soldiers

This is a bitter sweet picture. It shows some soldiers having breakfast and a coffee break at the bus station near to where we live. We are living in the NW of Cambodia near to the border with Thailand. For many years now there have been disputes about where the border between the 2 countries actually goes. These disputes have recently flared up and become increasingly violent and bloody. This is due to a ruling by the UN that the beautiful temple at Preh Vihear which is right on the border, belongs to Cambodia not Thailand We see soldiers moving around the towns close to where we live and read of fatalities on both sides in the papers. This is scary for us but for the Cambodian people who have known so much war and bloodshed in the recent past it is terrifying. It is a daily topic of conversation and everyone has opinions about it.However, the one thing that all the Cambodian people I know are completely in agreement about is that there should be no more fighting.
