T Ball
T Ball. Our son is finally old enough to play T Ball. He has been waiting for this opportunity most of his life. And when the day came that he was going to be able to lace up his cleats for the first time (officially), he could barely contain his excitement.
And the excitement was shared. This is a huge moment in our family. My husband and I grew up completely dedicated to sports. Our whole world revolved them. I have daydreamed of being able to watch my kid's sports games for years. It is something that we have always looked forward to. We knew never to push our love for sports on our children. We just always secretly hoped that their love for sports would come naturally. And with our son, it has. He is just one of those kids who was born with some piece of sporting equipment in his hand. A soccer ball, a tennis racket, a skateboard, a mitt....I could go on and on. He loves it. He has been waiting for his chance. And his chance is here. He is on his first t ball team.
Getting ready for the first practice, it was as if our family was on the way to disneyland. We were all so excited. It was huge. Our daughter even had her light up 'soccer shoes' on. And when we pulled up to the field, he started 'wooohooo'ing' before he even got out of the car. He is the kid on the field with the permanent smile on his face. You can just tell that he is having (his words) "the best day EVER". And his best buddy from preschool is on his team which makes the experience even more exciting for him. And my husband is assisting the coach. Something that he has always dreamed of doing with our kids.
Our daughter has already made some new friends. There are several little girls on the sidelines that are her age. Within the first half an hour, she was sharing snacks. And soon she and another little girl were picking little flowers together in the grass. She loves playing with other little girls so much. Many of our friends have boys so having the chance to spend time with another little girl is very special for her. And I can tell that we are going to make some nice friendships. The team is full of really nice kids and very supportive parents. The kids get to choose the team name at the next practice, should be interesting to see what a group of five year olds come up with. And I volunteered to be the team parent. No one raised their hand when the coach asked at the first practice. So by the second practice, I knew that it was something that I needed to do. I will now become an expert in beef jerky sticks and cheesecakes. Part of my duty is to organize and collect the fundraising. But I'm excited about it. it will help me get to know the families better and it's the least that I can do. Our son is in really good hands with the coach and it is such a positive environment.
Today's blip is dramatic I know. I could have gone many different ways with a t ball blip. I thought I'd do something that was kind of like an advertisement. Something unusual. And now I get to email all the t ball pics out to our family. This is the start of a very amazing experience for all of us!
